Govt. directs Commissioners and Secretaries to come out with a time bound action plan

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: After a threadbare discussion on all the announcements made by CM in his 70th Independence Day speech, the State Cabinet ratified and directed all the Commissioners and Secretaries to come out with a time bound action plan for their implementations.

Specific directives were issued to all the departments concerned for preparation of a holistic roadmap to ensure successful and timely implementation of all the announcements.

The Cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, further approved summoning a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly to ratify the amendment to the Constitution of India falling within the purview of clauses (b) and (c) of the proviso to clause (2) of article 368, proposed to be made by the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Second Amendment) Bill, 2014 as passed by both Houses of Parliament.

GST implementation will ease the process of Registration, Return Filing and Refund Claims as all will be done electronically through an online system. GST will reduce the burden of tax on consumers by totally eradicating 'Tax on Tax '(Cascading effect) and multiplicity of taxes, the meeting observed.

Due to sustained efforts and cooperation of tax payers, revenue collection is increasing in the current financial year which will enable the state to claim a larger compensation from Government of India for revenue loss, if any, in the first five years of implementation of GST.

There has been approximately 28% growth in Excise revenue and approximately 25% growth in tax revenue in the first quarter of current financial year on non-reconciled figures which will touch more than 30% growth figure when it will be reconciled, according a government release.

MLA for early restoration of Shakangchu Hydel Project

TAWANG, Aug 20: MLA Tsering Tashi and Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok, who have been pressing hard for early completion of the restoration works of Shakangchu Hydro Electric Project, on Saturday inspected the hydel project to take stock of the damages caused to it by flash flood.

Flash flood caused substantial damage to the hydel project two weeks ago by washing away 40 meter length of Aqueduct and Power Channel.

The MLA directed the concern department to restore the project as soon as possible to meet the power demands of the district.

They also visited local handmade paper making units at Langaiteng (Mukto) where around 8-9 families families are still dexterously involved in this age old tradition of paper-making, which is on the brink of extinction.

The MLA underscored the importance of the prized art as a source of livelihood and the need to provide timely and proper incentives to the local artisans.

During their return journey, they also inspected the famous Chakzam bridge built by Drupthob Thangthong Gyalpo. This iron bridge was built in 15th Century over Tawangchu River and was a lifeline for people residing on either side of the river.

The DC stressed on proper maintenance and preservation of the site. He also informed that efforts are being made to recognize it as National Heritage Site under Archaeological Survey of India. DIPRO

Candlelight march to pay homage to Late Kamdak

Govt. likely to announce Inspector rank job for Kamdak’s wife

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Galo Welfare Society (GWS) today took out a massive candlelight vigil across several parts of the state and drawing support from various other organisations to pay homage to former Deputy Superintendent of Police, late Bomto Kamdak, who died in the line of duty recently.

The candlelight march that started from Akashdeep market complex at Ganga to Tennis Court Complex at IG Park here saw the support of various community based organisations, prominent among them being the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), Tanw Supun Dukun (TSD) and Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP).

GWS president Dr Mitum Boje expressing his gratitude to the members of other communities said, "The support extended by members of other communities will never be forgotten."

During the candlelight vigil Boje informed that the state government is likely to announce inspector rank or equivalent job to Moyir Basar Kamdak, wife of former

DySP late Bomto Kamdak.

Also the family of the slain police officer announced to institute 'Bomto Kamdak Bravery Award' with cash award of Rs. One Lakh to be given through Bomto Kamdak Trust every year during Independence Day.

Maintaining that the demise of late Kamdak in the line of duty should be a cause for uniting all the Arunachalees to fight against anti-social elements, Dr Boje also appealed to the government for initiating a Judicial Inquiry by a sitting or retired Judge of High Court to unearth the actual events leading to the death of late Kamdak.

Having culminated at Tennis Court, a short ceremony was conducted to pay tribute to the slain DySP where eulogies of his life and bravery were highlighted before the gathered public.

Reading out one such eulogy was the father-in-law of late Kamdak, Er Tomo Basar, chief engineer (PHED) who though saddened by loss of a son-in-law, exuded pride for the life he has lived. "He (late Kamdak) was destined to greatness for he lived a life of full of bravery and honour," said the grieving father-in-law.

Also, expressing his gratitude to all the participants of the candlelight vigil and also the government for honouring late Kamdak's supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, Er Basar urged the government to facilitate certain provisions for Late Sai Bagang who was caught in the crossfire.

Representatives of all the community based organisations also spoke on the occasion.

Later, prayer for the departed police officer was observed by the people gathered.

It is to be noted that a similar candlelight marches were also carried out at places such as Ziro, Changlang and Namsai under the aegis of GWS district unit.

The Delhi unit of CoSAAP also organised a candlelight meet for Late Bomto Kamdak and Late Marmi Tao. All the officers and staff members of the RC office of Arunachal Bhawan as well as students and well-wishers residing in Delhi were present on the occasion.

RGU students protest against poor road condition

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: A mass rally was organized by the students of RGU in protest against the deplorable road conditions, non maintenance of drainage system leading to overflowing of water causing health hazards.

Around 300 students participated in the rally holding placards reading "We want better roads".

The protesters demanded the State Govt. to construct and repair roads, maintain drainage system and install street lamps along the RGU road.

Former RGUSU president Nabam Akin rued that the Govt. has not paid any heed to their genuine demands despite submission of several memoranda.

RGUSU president Tania Tagia said that RGU being the lone university of the state deserves proper infrastructure and road was one of the immediate concern. He warned that RGUSU would continue the agitation until its demands were fulfilled.

RGUSU general secretary Prem Taba urged the State Govt. to own the responsibility towards the university and its students. Claiming that "bad roads means corruption, " he appealed to the students to prepare themselves for agitation for a rightful cause. He urged the Govt. to take prompt initiative to address the problems instead of giving false promises.

AYA demands construction of civilian terminal at ALG

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Apatani Youth Association (AYA) has demanded construction of a basic civilian terminal at the existing Advanced Landing Grounds (ALG) in Ziro and drainage at nearby settlement and WRC area outside the ALG besides, lifting of prohibitory order vide the Gazette of India March, 2011 notification, prohibiting construction of building or structures or planting of trees within a limit of 900 meters from the parapet of the ALG.

Speaking during a press conference at the Press Club here on Saturday, the Apatani Youth Association (AYA) President Taku Chatung claimed that the government acquired 38 acres of land for construction of the ALG without adopting proper procedure in the 1950s. The AYA has drawn the attention of the state Governor, Chief Minister, Minister of State for Home, Chief Secretary, AOC Eastern Air Command and the Lower Subansiri DC many times since May 2014 but to no avail as no action has been initiated by the government as well as IAF/AAI so far.

'The ALG is constructed at the heart of the Ziro Valley surrounding WRC and human settlement areas. As there is no chance of further expansion of lands for construction of a full-fledged civilian terminal we therefore, urge the authorities to construct a basic civilian terminal at an available area between the parking bay and officers' mess', Chatung said.

He further said that due to construction of the ALG, the traditional drainages have been blocked and as a result the people living in the western side of the ALG are facing the problem of flooding of sewage water which is hazardous for their health.

'Regarding the sewage problem, the Lower Subansiri DC had submitted a proposal to the CC(NEP) AF, Chabua, Assam to construct sewerage vide letter No. PA/Land/2015 dated Jan 19, 2016 and No. Dev/ estimate/ 2014-16 dated March 3, 2016, but the Ministry of Defence, GoI rejected it', he informed.

The AYA has further expressed its concern over the March, 2011, Gazette of India notification following which the GoAP issued a prohibitory order stating that no building shall be constructed as well as trees be planted on any land within the limits of 100 meters from the crest of the outer parapet of the helipads, which will extend to 900 meters in case of airfields/ airports or advanced landing grounds.

'Though, we welcome the construction of the ALG, we do not want the locals who have donated the vast area of land to be denied their basic rights and hence oppose the imposition of the prohibitory order', it stated.

It further claimed that the decision taken in the Jun 2 last, meeting held in the office chamber of Secretary (Civil aviation) to find out alternative alignment for Trans-Arunachal Highway for the portion along ALG boundary is also a consequence of the said gazette.

NEDFi to set up venture fund for NER with DoNER

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: To encourage Startup Ventures in the North East region, North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) in collaboration with the Ministry of DoNER is setting up an Rs.100 crore North East Venture Fund, a dedicated venture capital fund for the North Eastern Region.

An official release stated that the DoNER ministry will contribute Rs 45 Cr. fund while NEDFi will contribute Rs 30Cr. The balance amount of Rs.25 Cr. will be raised from other financial institutions. In this connection, NEDFi has already set up two wholly owned subsidiary companies viz., NEDFi Trustee Ltd and NEDFi Venture Capital Ltd to operationalise the Venture Fund which is expected to be launched by October, 2016, after the same is registered with SEBI.

The investment focus of the Venture Fund will be in early and growth stage investments mostly in the fields of IT & ITES, Food processing, Healthcare, Tourism, Retail and Aggregation of Services. NEVF would like to invest in areas such as development of new products and services, technological up gradation, expansion or diversification, process improvement and quality improvement with the purpose of creating value for all stake holders.

NEDFi has been playing a proactive role in entrepreneurship development in North Eastern region, providing handholding support like capacity building, market linkages and advisory mentoring services to entrepreneurs including the much needed financial assistance to first generation entrepreneurs at concessional rate of interest.

Parthenium awareness programme organized at CHF Pasighat

PASIGHAT, Aug 20: An awareness programme on Parthenium was organised by College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat on Aug 18th and 19th.

The awareness programme was organised by All India Coordinated Research Project on Weed Management, Pasighat Centre of the College in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra East Siang, Pasighat of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur.

Altogether 36 AFO's from different districts of Arunachal Pradesh participated in programme. Dr. Dinesh Sah, Principle investigator and Assistant Professor, Department of Natural Resource Management stressed on the importance of eradicating Parthenium weed from crop lands. He also informed about history of introduction of weed in India, its biology, propagation, dispersal, economic losses caused to field crops and current status in the country, while Dr. Mahesh Pathak, Programme Coordinator, KVK East Siang briefed on management practices of Parthenium in field and horticultural crops.

SMS Plant Protection KVK East Siang, Toge Riba appraised about scenario of Parthenium in Arunachal Pradesh with emphasis on East Siang district and how to manage the noxious weed on community basis.

Dr. R.C. Shakywar, Assistant professor, Department of Plant Protection shared his experience with the participants on management of Parthenium through biological methods by releasing insect Zygogramma bicolorata in infested fields/areas.

Assistant Director Training, Gram Sewak Training Centre, Pasighat, Opang Moyong also shared his views on management of Parthenium with the participants. Faculty members of the College and Officers from Gram Sewak Training Centre, Pasighat also participated in the programme.

Parthenium hysterophorus is an alien weed introduced in India during 1960s. It has become one of the rampant weed throughout the globe causing enormous damage to agricultural field, non cropped area, human and animal health, environment and biodiversity. Management of this obnoxious weed requires collective and continuous efforts through awareness.

NBK appeals Centre for construction of airport at Bogi

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Nugong Baane Kebang (NBK) on behalf of the people of the Nugong Banggo has appealed to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to take necessary steps for construction of civilian airport at Bogi, near Pangin in Siang district. It is an ideal place for construction of international/domestic airport which can also serve as an alternative for Pasighat airport, the NBK said in a release.

Informing that Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Babul Supriyo, who represented the central Govt during "Yaad Karo Quarbani" programme held at Yagrung village on Friday, has assured the Nugong Banggo people to take up the matter with PMO and Union Road Transport Minister for construction of double lanning road in the historical areas, the NBK also requested the MP Ninong Ering, Union Minister of State of Home, Kiren Rijiju and the state Govt to take up the proposed airport project at Bogi and double lanning road project from Dite Dime to Reglat with higher authorities for approval.

Highlighting the lack of road infrastructure in Nugong Banggo area, the NBK lamented that the area still remains as one of the most backward places in the country despite many historical sacrifices made by our forefathers for safeguarding the motherland. There is no road leading to historical place where Sir Noel Williamson was actually murdered, it further said.

Appreciating both the Central Govt and Adi Baane Kebang for organizing the programme "Yaad Karo Quarbani in recognition to the contribution of Freedom fighter Matmur Jamoh at Yagrung village on Friday, NBK further said that the Govt should recognize the contribution of other unsung heroes and brave freedom fighters of Adis.

'Azadi-70, Yaad Karo Qurbani' conducted in West Kameng

BOMDILA, Aug 20: The week-long special awareness programme conducted by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Bomdila Unit in West Kameng from Aug 15 on the theme "Azadi-70, Yaad Karo Qurbani" concluded on Saturday with felicitation of Dadajis, persons who were born before independence.

The main aim and objective of the awareness programme was to infuse a sense of patriotism among the people and remind them the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.

A Tiranga rally was conducted on Aug 15 at Bomdila and participated by the DFP staff, students and teachers of Govt. Secondary School Kakaling.

On Aug 16, the DFP Bomdila Unit organised a public meeting at Pedung village. The FPO, DFP Bomdila requested the gathering to remember the sacrifice made by our freedom fighters and develop nationalistic feelings.

The other attraction of the days programme were distribution of publicity materials, photo exhibition, screening of patriotic films, theme based Quiz competition, Handicraft exhibition, Essay writing Competition, painting competition, Games & Sport competition etc. with prize distribution.

The artists from Song & Drama division Guwahati and local cultural troupe also performed theme based skits, plays and cultural programmes.

Similar types of programme were also conducted at Wanghoo village on Aug 18 and Kakaling on Aug 19.

Local villagers, students, GBs and the Panchayati Raj members enthusiastically participated in the programmes.

APCC observes Sadbhavana Diwas

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Saturday observed Sadbhavana Diwas commemorating the 72nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu led the party leaders and workers in offering floral tributes to the decorated portrait of the former prime minister at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday.

In his address, Pema recalled the contribution made by the former minister to the country, particularly in the growth of IT sector and for peace and tranquillity of the country.

"His valuable contributions are visible all over the country, which have been benefitting every Indian now," Pema said.

While highlighting some of his new policies to bring visible changes in the state, Khandu called for all out efforts to turn Arunachal Pradesh 100 percent organic state.

"Congress ideology advocates rising above all differences - caste, creed and religion - to join hands in nation building which endeared the party among the masses nation-wide, said Deputy CM Chowna Mein.

It is a people's party and the ruling Congress Govt. led by young CM Khandu would prove its ideology through its every action, Mein added.

APCC president Padi Richo administered Sadbhawana pledge to all present on the occasion to work for emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, religion, or language, to resolve all difference among through dialogue and constitutional means without resorting to violence.

The programme was attended by senior Congress party leaders, MLAs and Ministers, office bearers, IMC councilors, Panchayat leaders and party workers.

'Developmental works should be planned to meet the future requirements'

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Director of Higher and Technical Education cum SPD (RUSA) Dr. Tejum Padu said that developmental works should be planned in such a way that they cater to the future requirements.

Inaugurating a day-long workshop on Geo-tagging, PFMS, SLQAC and AISHE conducted by State Project Directorate, Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksa Abhiyan, Rajya Mission at APSCTE Conference Hall, DHTE here on Saturday, Padu said that after implementation of Tech. Ed.-III project, many a pass-out students will not only be holding the key positions in various organizations but they will also be participating in entrepreneurial activities thereby contributing to the development of the state.

He opined that the charter of duties of the staff must be kept rotational in order to inculcate the proper learning and understanding of all the activities so that in absentia of any staff, work should not be hampered.

Deputy SPD (RUSA) Minto Ete called upon all the RUSA Coordinators and Principals of 13 Govt. Colleges of the State for strict monitoring of the developmental and other works executed under RUSA for the betterment of the Institutions.

He said that Institutes are the real implementers of the RUSA programmes and schemes and the Directorate is only a facilitator. He also stressed upon equipping all the faculties and stakeholders with Information and Communication Technology tools.

During Technical Session-I, Ete presented about the Bhuvan RUSA App which is a geo-tagging reporting tool for various parameters, like new construction, up-gradation works and equipments. This mobile App is a platform for controlled crowd sourcing to build spatial database on Bhuvan Geo-platform.

He further presented about the Central Plan Scheme Monitoring System implemented by the Comptroller General of the Accounts in collaboration with the NIC. It comprises direct payment to beneficiaries both under selected plan and non-plan schemes. CPSMS is linked with NPCI and provide immediate validation of bank accounts thus the e-disbursement of the benefits.

The Dy. SPD informed that it has become mandatory for all the institutions to register under Know Your College (KYC) under AISHE. He briefed the various activities conducted under RUSA and informed about the areas in which the institutions are eligible to receive financial support. He also requested all the stakeholders to extend cooperation for successful implementation of RUSA flagship programme in the State.

Dr. VN Sharma, SLO, highlighted about the activities conducted under State Level Quality Assurance Cell (SLQAC) for enhancing the quality of education and to inculcate best practices among the institutions. He called upon all the principals and coordinators to record and report all the activities carried out by the institutions for enhancing conduciveness of teaching learning atmosphere.

He also highlighted on SLQAC and All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) initiated by the MHRD in 2011 to build a robust database and to assess the correct picture of Higher Education in the country. The institution has to register on portal to fill in Data Capture Formats.

Ering announces relief for flood victims

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Member of Parliament (MP) Ninong Ering visited the flood affected areas of the Tezu and announced Rs. 10 lakhs each for Sunpura and Changliang area as an immediate relief to the flood victims.

He also announced Rs. 15 lakhs for construction of Rostrum/Gallery at the Wakro General Ground from his MPLAD fund for the year 2016-17.

Earlier, Ering attended the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (earlier District Level Vigilance Monitoring Committee) meeting of Lohit at the Conference hall of Lohit DC, Tezu and underlined on the importance of the meeting to get funds released from the central government for its various schemes and programmes.

He suggested all concern HOD's/Nodal Officers of the district to take this meeting very seriously otherwise it may hamper in releasing fund to the concern department.

Addressing the meeting, MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai raised the issue of awarding supply order of CGI sheets under IAY programme. He suggested that the local entrepreneurs may be given preference for supply of materials instead of central purchase under the programme. This will not only encourage them but also save the transportation cost.

He urged the MP to raise the issue in the Parliament saying that he himself would also raise the issue in the State Assembly. He further requested District Administration, ZPC, and DRDA to take appropriate action in this regard.

All the newly elected Members/Nodal Officers of Development departments were participated in the meeting.

SDO (Hqs) Gautom Hazarika, who was for the particular meeting in absence of Deputy Commissioner cum Member Secretary, DDCMC, highlighted the aims and objecting of constituting DDCMC He requested all the members to take active part in the discussion and offer their valuable suggestions for effective implementation of all the Centrally Sponsored Schemes in this district.

Tuli Gankak, PD,DRDA, Tezu Cum Member, DDCMC highlighting about the aim and objectives of DDCMC, said that it is an effort of Govt. to improve the Development Coordination and Monitoring within the Constitutional Frame work of responsibilities assigned to Central, State and Local Governments (Panchayati Raj institutions etc;) in accordance with the laid down procedures and guidelines of Govt. of India.

The District Level Nodal Officers/HOD's of Lohit District like DDSE, DRCHO, DUDA, DAO, DHO, DVO, DFDO, Industry, WRD, RWD, Power, PHE, DVO, DDICDS etc placed the physical and financial Reports of 2015-16 and also Status Report of 2016-17 of all the development activities of their respective departments in the meting for review.

The meeting also discussed regarding budgetary approvals and targets for implementation of development programmes of all the concern departments.

Patam Rangmang, Chairperson, Lohit Zilla Parishad also took part in the meeting and shared his suggestion and views for effective implementation and monitoring of all the developmental activities in the district.

Forum serves a month's ultimatum to EHEPCL to meet demands

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Project Affected People's Forum (PAF), Etalin, Dibang Valley, has served EHEPCL with its head office at Gurgaon, Haryana a month's ultimatum to clear compensation for the death of Lt. Takide Melo, FO, who died on July 27, 2015.

"It is regrettable that the death compensation, EPF and other benefits are yet to be finalized and paid to the spouse of the deceased or the family members," claimed the PAF in its ultimatum served to the president cum CEO, EHEPCL, Gurgaon, Haryana.

The PAF stated that the matter was supposed to be settled within three months from the death of the person as per government rules and guidelines. The PAF demanded clearance of the death benefits in one go and immediate initiation of the EPF.

The Forum also demanded continuation of service of local project affected people of EHEPCL (3097 MW), which is one of integral parts of the PAF's charters of demands submitted during the grand Public Hearing held on 12. 12. 2014 at Etalin.

The Forum claimed that during the post public hearing, the corporate had been trying to drastically reduce the number of employees and even have tried to push out the local contingency employees from their jobs, which is not acceptable at any cost.

Claiming sudden stoppage of welfare activities under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Forum demanded the power developer to continue the scheme for the project affected people.

The PAF also claimed that the power developer has stopped awarding scholarships to meritorious students as the previously sponsored scholarships are yet to be sanctioned.

Pasighat Mega Solung 2016 Sports fest

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Pasighat Mega Solung Festival-2016 Sports Fest began on August 19 with a football match played between OG Sports Club and Siang Rovers Football Club, in which the former defeated the latter by 2-0 goals.

The second match played between Capital Complex Football Club (CCFC) and Mongku Soccer Club ended in a 2-2 draw.

Earlier, the Sports Festival was inaugurated by Brigadier SS Virk, Commander, 103 Infantry Brigade, Rayang.

The Band Party of 103 Infantry Brigade enthralled the audience during the inaugural function.

The Solung Football Tournament Trophy is sponsored by Kaling Moyong, MLA cum chairman, PMSCC-2016.

The prize money of Rs. 2 Lakh for the champion of the tournament is sponsored by Nabam Tullon and Rs 1 lakh for the Runners-up is sponsored by KNR Construction Ltd.

Pisa Gonia Memorial Volleyball Tournament

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The second Pisa Gonia Memorial Volleyball Tournament was held from August 11-15 at Sarli circle under Kurung Kumey district.

The final matches were played on the Independence Day at General ground, Sarli.

Sate Anchal Segment lifted the Trophy and won cash prize of Rs. 50,000 In boys category. Runners up Tai Anchal Segment walked away with cash prize of Rs. 30,000 with Trophy.

Pisa Sangkio of Sate Anchal Segment won the best player award in boys category. He was given cash prize of Rs. 5,000.

In girls category, Sarli Town Anchal segment won the trophy and walked away with cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Runners up Sate Anchal Segment was awarded cash prize of Rs. 30,000 along with a trophy. Sangha Koya of Sarli town was declared the best player in girls category. She was given a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.

LIROMOBA, Aug 20: A prayer hall at GHSS Liromoba was inaugurated by MLA Liromoba Nyamar Karbak on Aug 17.

While interacting with students, MLA Karbak stressed on maintaining of quality education and appealed the parents to keep close coordination with school authority to know the daily activities of their wards. He also appealed the students of the area to concentrate on the studies rather than to waste their time in unproductive activities.

Karbak also appealed the teachers posted in the school to perform their duties with utmost sincerity and full devotion. He also requested them to avoid seeking of transfer without completion of normal tenure. Such transfer and posting would ruin and hamper the career of the students he added.

The MLA also announced Rs. 20 Lakh and Rs.10 Lakh for complete renovation of school and girls hostel of GHSS Liromoba. Donating a green board, he urged the school authority to completely replace the black board with green board and white boards. Further, a refrigerator set was also donated to the school authority.

Karbak also called on the local people for cooperation in overall development.

DBC students felicitated

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The Graduation cum Felicitation ceremony of Don Bosco College, Itanagar was conducted with the theme: "Before looking for a way to get, look for a way to get" at the College on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, College principal, Dr. Fr. Nicholas announced that a total of 29 ranks were secured by the Bosconians, highest number of ranks among RGU affiliated Colleges.

In his speech Vice Chancellor of RGU, Prof. Tamo Mibang, exhorted the Graduates to follow the Bosconian motto to Lead, Kindly and Light and help the human civilization move forward. ASBA congrats Sindhu

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) has congratulated PV Sindhu for creating history by becoming the first Indian women shuttler to reach in the final and win silver medal for the country in Olympics.

Sindhu went down fighting to Spain's Carolina Marin in the women's badminton singles final at the Rio Olympics on Friday, giving India its second medal at the Rio Games and becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics.

Her medal winning performance in the Rio Olympics has not only made the country proud but also proved the potentiality of badminton in country, stated ASBA in a release.

Electronic model exhibition at NERIST

Nirjuli, Aug 20: A day-long electronic models exhibition was held at the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NERIST on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A. Dinamani Singh stated that this is an initiative taken up to make students aware of the latest trends in electronics and communication engineering and the career prospects.

A total of 20 exhibits were demonstrated which was visited by school students. The school students also exchanged ideas with the students of NERIST. Some of the appreciated models were bicycle turn indicator, music transmission using light, step counter, touch alarm system, remote control equipment controller and automatic light dimmer.

Jamoh stresses on inter-administrative relation with Assam Correspondent

RUKSIN, Aug 20: Highlighting on various developmental activities initiated by him, Pasighat-West MLA Tatung Jamoh said that he was planning to improve and extend road network in the constituency. He was addressing the 'Independence Day' celebration by Ruksin sub-divisional administration.

He informed that the much hyped Sainik School at Niglok has finally been approved by the government and to be functional from 2017-18 year. The RCC drain construction at Ruksin Township, construction of 2-storied RCC guest House at present RWD IB site at Ruksin headquarter and construction of residential building for medical staffs at Bilat are being taken up.

The MLA appealed to the executing agency to maintain work quality and time bound completion of the construction works. He also urged the administrative officer to maintain cordial relation with Jonai (Assam) administration to restrain anti-social elements and law and order at boundary area.

MLA Jamoh exhorted the youths of the state to imbibe work culture and enhance their income by exploiting benefits given by the state government in agriculture and allied sectors.

Withdraw proposed district bandh, ZPC appeals

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: Kra Daadi Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC) Rido Meena has appealed to the executive members of All Kra Daadi District Students' Union (AKKDSU) to withdraw the proposed 12 hours district bandh on August 23 next and come forward for dialogue to sort out the issues. The proposed bandh call will affect the functioning of the Govt establishments, students and business communities, she said.

Opposing the proposed bandh call, the ZPC further said "The present DC is a sincere, dedicated and efficient officer, especially for new and growing district like Kra-Daadi."

She further said the union was invited in a meeting with PHED and disaster management minister, Tali MLA, Panchayat leaders, contractors of MsDP projects of the district and HoDS on August 14 last to sort out the issues however AKKDSU executive members failed to attend the meeting.

IDCF concludes in Pasighat

BOMDILA, Aug 20: The Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight (IDCF) concluded recently in West Siang district with the active participation of all the district administration and health department.

In an attempt to expand the health and education awareness amongst the people of the district and taking advantage of the platform provided by the IDCF, West Kameng Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Sonal Swaroop initiated Nukkad Nataks involving the students of Govt Higher Secondary School Bomdila and members of the Student Unions of the district.

These Nukkad Nataks were conducted at administrative centers of Kalaktang, Nafra, Singchung and Dirang in the district with involving the audience, particularly adolescent girls, married women, pregnant and lactating mothers along with elderly people.

This first of its kind IEC activity emphasized more on prevention along with treatment of Diarrhea using ORS, Zinc tablets and highlighting importance of hand washing, maintaining hygiene, abstaining from smoking and alcohol. The ten minute plays effectively enacted by the students were well received by the people.

It was further underlined that besides the parents, pivotal role could be played by the teachers, School Management Committees, Anganwadi workers, NGOs, health activists, PRI members and others in bringing the desired goals. DIPRO

PCCF visits Van Vigyan Kendra, Chessa

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The PCCF & Principal Secretary (Environment & Forests) Omkar Singh on Saturday visited Van Vigyan Kendra, Chessa.

The PCCF while interacting with scientists and field staff expressed his satisfaction and urged them to pursue research and conservation activities with full vigour and dedication.

He also emphasised on stocking of tall ornamental plants for annual forestry festivals.

The PCCF was accompanied by CM Rao, APCCF (A&V), R. Kemp, APCCF(RE), CD Singh,CCF and team of Scientists from SFRI and DFO, Silculture lead by N.Tam, Director.

As many as 56 bamboo species are grown here. In addition to all the bamboo variety of the state, it has in its stock bamboos from other parts of our country also. The Arboretum (Botanical garden) has 186 tree species, Medicinal plant garden with 160 species, Ethno botanical plants of 74 species, Wild edible plants garden has 33 species, Piper garden has 9 species of piper, Canetum has 10 variety of canes, Mussa garden has 12 banana species, Palmatum has 15 variety of palms and 13 species of aquatic plants are recorded in it's Lily pond .

The centre has also number of Green houses with good seedling stock of important tree species.

The Orchid house has 77 plants of 33 species and Fern house has 85 plants of 27 species.

There are also Clonal seed orchard, Seedling seed orchard, National Germplasm for Teak and 18 other fast growing timber species, and 9 bamboo species.

The centre has been carrying out research and experimental works since its inception in the year 1982. The centre has been imparting hands-on training to Forestry students from different colleges. Forestry students from NERIST and colleges from as far as Dehradun etc. also come to the centre for studies. Other Research scholars also frequent the centre for research and experience sharing purposes.

'Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite 2016' competition conducted

ROING, Aug 20: A school level science exhibition- Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite 2016 competition was organised at VKV Roing on Saturday.

A total of 128 students participated under 38 different projects. The programme was organized in order to ignite the scientific talents and also to solve the problems around them by imparting technological ideas and innovations.

Cleanliness drive

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: In its continued efforts to keep the sectors and colonies clean a mass cleanliness drive was conducted under the Ward No 11 on Saturday. A large number of denizens under the initiatives of IMC councilor Higio Aruni took part in the drive to make their sectors neat and clean.

The focus area this time was F sector, Apex Bank Colony, Abotani Colony and the rear sides of Arunachal Times office.

IMC Deputy Chief Councillor, Tarh Nachung, Deputy Commissioner, Capital Complex, Sandeep Kumar Singh, CMEO IMC, Habung Lampung, CO Margam Bagra, UFRO Taba Teni and Sanitary Supervisor (IMC) Lham Tashi along with the ward Councilor, Higio Aruni were also present to encourage the participants in the cleanliness drive.

On request of Aruni to provide another pickup truck for Abotani Colony and E sector on a daily basis, the DC informed them that a temporary vehicle would be sent to the area between 6-6.30 am from Monday and assured for a permanent one by 1st September. The DC also assured to look into the public demand for installation of CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas to curb anti-social activities particularly at night.

AASSATA calls on Education Minister, reiterates demand

ITANAGAR, Aug 20: The executive members of All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers' Association (AASSATA) on Saturday called on Minister Education Hunchun Ngandam and submitted a memorandum reiterating its four points charter of demands.

AASSATA has been demanding for batch-wise regularization of in-service SSA teachers, single window entry for PRT at elementary education, immediate implementation of SSA-RTE Act as per revised norms and Enhancement of in-service SSA teachers' salary.

The Minister Education has assured to look into their demands at the earliest, a release said.
